The Cortland Housing Authority (CHA) administers two low-income housing programs that are administered by the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Administration.
Under the Public Housing Program, CHA operates 380 low – income apartments located throughout Cortland County. Locations include Cincinnatus, Cortland, Homer, Marathon, McGraw and Truxton.
There are 6 elderly/disabled studio and 1-bedroom buildings, as well as family units throughout the county. The buildings are all locked 24 – hours a day and have camera surveillance in most areas. The family units are also under 24-hour surveillance.
At the City of Cortland high-rises located at 42 Church and 51 Port Watson Street, the doors are locked 24/7, an intercom system is used to get let into the building. There are staff members located in these two buildings, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.. Under the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program, the CHA administers assistance to low-income households that are renting from private landlords in our community. This program helps those households to try to make ends meet.
